Coming Soon - Geology and Rock Hounding Tours

In 2022, I plan to begin offering geology and rock hounding tours of the San Rafael Swell in Emery County, Utah.  Join the mailing list to be notified of updates on the tours or contact me if you have any questions.

Proposed tours include:

 

Large ammonites (Prionocyclus) and concretions from the Mancos Shale near Lawrence (4-5 hours) – collection of the Prionocyclus will be limited to one per household.

Scaphites and bivalves from the Mancos Shale near Castle Dale (2-3 hours) Collection will be limited to 3 Scaphites per person

Selenite from the Carmel Formation with visits to the Wedge, petroglyphs along Little Cedar Mountain Road and Buckhorn Wash Pictograph Panel (6-8 hours)

Tour of the Jurassic and Triassic geology along Dutch Flat Road and the Salt Wash Trail with stops for agate, jasper and selenite and overlooks of the San Rafael River and Salt Wash (8 hours)

Tour of the Jurassic and Cretaceous Geology around Sand Bench with stops for soil nodule concretions and jasper (6-8 hours)

Tour of Coal Wash to Fix-It Pass with stops for bivalves, jasper and petrified wood. ATV may be required. (8 hours)

Tour of the Triassic geology of Mexican Hat Road with stops for petrified wood and jasper (5-6 hours)

Jasper geodes of the Summerville Formation (4-5 hours)

Jasper, agate, petrified wood in the Morrison and Summerville Formation off Moore Cutoff Road (4-5 hours)

Cliff agate of the Cedar Mountain Formation, Cedar Mountain (2-3 hours)
